Physicist, researcher, and technology entrepreneur, María Fernanda González Ph.D. works at the intersection of theoretical physics, artificial intelligence, and complex systems to address critical planetary challenges. She is the originator of the Essential AI concept — distinguishing artificial intelligence directed toward essential societal and planetary needs — and the creator of NatQuantA, a pioneering architecture for natural capital quantification, now expanded in her book NatQuantA: Natural Quantification Architecture. Her trajectory, from the equations of Bohmian mechanics to adaptive machine learning algorithms, has received international recognition, including selection as a World Economic Forum Top Innovator and participation in the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
María Fernanda González is a physicist and AI scientist with nearly two decades of experience designing new AI solutions for complex systems. Since 2007, she has applied physics and mathematical modelling across energy, healthcare, Earth observation, environmental science, natural capital and financial modelling — driven by a core question: How can physics help us design fundamentally new AI algorithms?
Her formation spans a degree in Physics from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, oceanography studies at the Escuela Naval de Cadetes Almirante Padilla, advanced training in numerical methods at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE/UPC), and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Barcelona — followed by IESE Business School, the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), and ESADE.
A physicist and numerical modeler by formation, a deep-tech founder and author by vocation, and a mentor and global citizen by conviction — she designs systems that see the Earth more clearly and that help humanity act more wisely within it. Her work inhabits the space where science becomes technology, and technology becomes planetary responsibility.
She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Barcelona and has been recognized by the World Economic Forum, the U.S. Government, ESADE, and international innovation programs across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Under her literary name María Fernanda Márquez Pardo, she also writes at the intersection of science, ancestral knowledge, memory, and human reconstruction.
